PROJECT TYPE: HOTEL SCOPE: ARCHITECTURE LOCATION: MEXICO CITY, MEXICO
Located deep in the heart of Mexico City, close tothe lively (and less touristy) Colonia Juárez neighborhood, Hotel Carlota demonstrates a remarkable fusion between original and contemporary, an ode to high design.
Constructed by the prestigious local firm JSa Arquitectura and “art-directed” by Cadena & Asociados, the hotel is a 36-room modernist outpost with a glass-walled swimming pool — a rarity in Mexico City’s boutique hotels — a patio restaurant and a beyond-hip lifestyle boutique, Taxonomia, all of which are combined in a see-and-be-seen attraction.
The inn boasts an amalgamation of concepts, curated designs and artworks, multi-sensory experiences, and claims a front row seat to the culturally dense landscape – which was initiated as an urban archaeology scheme, integrating elements of the past to add historical perspective to the modernity of its contemporary form.
Particularly, the pool and central courtyard retain their place as the property’s spiritual centrepiece, invoking a modern oasis surrounded by the activity of the gallery, library and restaurant that provide discerning options for guests to relax and enjoy a moment of peace within the city’s centre.
A stylish spot to perch – those who prize form over function will relish their stay.
