Casa des Pedras

PROJECT TYPE: RESIDENTIAL SCOPE: ARCHITECTURE LOCATION: FRANCA, BRAZIL

mf+arquitetos have designed ‘Casa das Pedras’, or ‘House of the Stones’ in the mountains of Minas Gerais in Brazil. The house was integrated into the terrain’s existing topography, creating a design that frames views of the surrounding mountains.

The design is split into two ‘boxes’: the lower building is designated for the social areas, while the upper structure is designated for bedrooms. The volumes appear as though they have been slid into the terrain, allowing the natural topography to become part of the design.

The buildings are lined with stones, framing the beautiful landscape. mf+arquitetos have employed stone, wood and brick throughout the space to create a subtle architectural intervention. Views of the mountains in the distance are visible from all areas of the house. Wood screens provide shade and privacy while also creating an evocative and transparent design.
